This has been the part of my report I've debated the longest over how to go about writing it up. Mainly in part because I know I have both friends who are well versed in zuka-dom reading this but also friends who know absolutely nothing who will read this so thus I'll probably be putting in explanations of things I normally wouldn't, etc. Same goes with my show reports. Also warning that I may get a bit emotional and cheesy for this part. This was my very first time seeing Takarazuka and so it was a pretty special experience for me.

First let me start this off with saying how much of a big step this was for me. My parents were non-stop worrying and paranoid over this whole trip from the very beginning planning stages which resulted in me panicking and I almost gave up on it a few times, convinced by their way of thinking that I was in over my head and not capable of doing such a big trip on my own. After all, I've only ever traveled alone by myself once and that was just a quick weekend trip to NYC where I had friends with me the entire time once I got there. This was only my 2nd time being out of the country and the first time being on a plane alone, the first time booking hotels on my own, etc etc. It was A LOT of firsts. But you know what? I did it. It wasn't as hard as they made it out to be. I was never in fear of my safety. I did get a little lost a few times but I very easily corrected myself (just got off at the wrong stops or went out the wrong side of the station, etc) with no panic. Despite my no sense of direction, I managed to navigate the train systems of Japan without too much trouble. I even found my way to a few places that weren't planned and just on a whim without a hitch.

So this whole experience was very freeing for me. I proved to myself that I can do this. I'm capable of doing things on my own after all. I never felt homesick. I never broke down and cried (ok I did cry but it was due to the heartache of leaving the theaters, etc). I never felt lonely. Basically none of my fears came true. I'm so incredibly glad I did it and it was seriously the best time I've ever had.

I was going to include Day 2 with Day 1 but then realized I did waaaay too much that day, it really needs its own entry. XD

I successfully went to Japan and came back on my own so I consider that a pretty good victory. XD I also had a very heavy back-pack (and some of my suitcase though I was careful not to put too much in there so not to go over the weight limit) full of shinies by the time I came home.

Seriously I had such an amazing time. I'll be uploading my photos mainly to Facebook but I'll do most of my actual reports here. Not sure how I'll do them. Probably by day like I did last time I was there. Just not sure whether or not to make separate entries for the shows themselves. I accomplished everything I set out to do and more so I'm pretty content though I wish I could have stayed longer and I wish the stupid flight wasn't so much money else I'd try to go a lot more frequently. *sigh*

But boy I really need to do some cleaning on this thing. Or at least update my icons (like seriously I only have 2 right now? That needs to change though I'm not going to bother paying for more icons anymore). I still need to write my Otakon report but that will probably happen after the Japan reports at this rate. lol And I've got AUSA and X-Japan in NYC coming up too. @_@; How did my life get so busy?

I had intended to write up my Otakon report too before I left but that ain't happening now. Oh well. XD There were a lot of other things I was going to write in here too but I didn't want to get rid of my saved Zenkaikon draft.

But yeah. So in about 6 hours from now I'm heading out to the airport then flying across the US and then over to Japan. This is my 2nd time going there but my first time going alone. Hell this is my first time alone on a plane. First time really traveling anywhere by myself (other than a trip to NYC but even then I had people meeting with me as soon as I got off the bus). I'll be completely alone until Sunday, most likely. At least then I'll get to meet up with my friend Chibi and on Mon I'll get to see Lauren too but most likely will be missing Jessica since she's leaving Tokyo the day I'm going TO Tokyo. Pfft.

...I'm really nervous. I'm trying my best to be excited. I mean this is a trip I've saved up for years and this is the big thing for me. I'm finally going to be seeing Takarazuka live. I'm going to be seeing Elisabeth. I'm going to see my Lady Osa and going to see my troupe of choice right now, Hoshigumi. But I just can't get over how nervous I am doing this alone and I'm so afraid me being homesick and lonely will make it hard to enjoy. Hopefully this will go away once I get there but I dunno, I get lonely easily and I'm not going to have anyone to talk to since I know so little Japanese.

I keep getting the "...you're going alone?" whenever anyone asks about my trip, not understanding why I'm not going with someone. Believe me, I tried. I'd been asking to see if anyone wanted to come with me for about 3 years now but I got too many Maybes who all canceled out in the end. Part of me thinks maybe I should have waited until one of them could afford to go too but I'd miss the chance to see the shows I really want to see if I did.

I'm also sad I won't be able to do some of the things I did really want to do. Like the salon. I just don't have the make-up skills to do it on my own and I thought about it and I really don't think I want to make the poor ladies there deal with me since I know they don't know any English and I don't know enough Japanese to really converse with them. So I don't think I have the courage to do a walk-in unless I run into someone who know English willing to help me. lol Oh well. Hopefully I'll be able to return in a few years and be able to get an actual appointment then. But it does suck as its something I've always wanted to do and I was so looking forward to changing my profile icons to the image I get, etc.

I also just plain feel dumb. I planned this thing for years and yet am so insanely unprepared for it. I should have made an effort to learn more Japanese, I should have scheduled things better, etc. But here I am and I can't cancel or change things now. I'll just hope for the best. At least I have a long flight to calm me down (as long as I can get to my flight in CA alright XD) as I do enjoy the flight there even if it is insanely long (well I've only done it once but I liked it then lmao).

But yeah I'll prolly use this thing to do all my show reports and such when I come back.

I was asked to be a judge for Zenkaikon's Hall Cosplay Contest this year. I was a judge back in 2011 and rather enjoyed the experience so I was definitely up for making a return to the con. I had heard the con had grown a lot in size and was a bit different now that it had moved location and boy was that right. I'm glad to see the con grow and I really enjoyed it so I'm hoping to be there next year too.

It looks like (very slowly) some folks are coming back here? Or at least I do see some of my friends actually making entries as of late. I still check my friends list every day regardless (though in part its also to see if anyone has anything or sale on the zuka community lol).

So I am going to try to get back to using this too. The only reason I stopped is it seemed no one else was using it and it got lonely. lol But I do still plan to at least use this for my con reports (which I still have 2 to write up) and it'll most likely also be where I write about my Japan trip since this format is still so much better than Facebook and Tumblr for that.

For those of you who may just be getting a LJ or are reviving their own and see me add you, I'm lyn_hargreaves on tumblr. I actually have had this thing for over 10 years and have always kept track of the Takarazuka community through here (I only got a tumblr because I saw the mass migration and didn't want to be out of the know)...I just lurked and never really commented on anything, being too shy. Well...tumblr kinda fixed that so I probably will be a lot more vocal from this point on here as well. XD Not sure how many entries I'll make but I will at least read everyone else's.

Ugly new LJ layout aside, I still want to type up my con reports here. Once again I'm a bit behind in that regard but first off is Awesome Con, DC's first real comic con which is only in its 2nd year now. I missed the first year but was determined to go this year. I sadly was only able to attend Sunday due to my work schedule but it was definitely worth going to and I'm hoping to attend at least 2 days next year considering it will be an actual 3 day con now instead of a 2.5 day (or almost a quarter since Friday was only open for a few hours in the evening) con.

- boots - bought
- boot covers

- decide which costumes I'm bringing? XD
- see if I can repair those boots in case I need them (mainly if I bring Loki) or buy new boots at thrift store if needed

And I have about a month left. Hmmm. lol I have this sinking feeling Der Tod isn't going to be finished in time. *le sigh* And it might come down to simply whether or not I can get the wig ready in time or not and if I can find help with the make-up. I also can't really do any of the repair work on Hades until right before con so I don't risk the kitties biting the armor after I repair it from the damage they've already done. >_>;;

I keep taking forever to do these con reports. x_x But this one will be short at least since I only went for one day. AUSA moved their date to Sept...which sucked. Because it made it way too close to Dragon Con which resulted in a lot of people deciding to go only one day or not at all and the PA group couldn't attend at all due to being a big weekend in Gettysburg and most of them work there so I didn't even have my usual roommates. So thus only going one day.

Dragon Con Part 2: Saturday )

The rest of my Dragon Con report will probably be finished in just one more post as I didn't do quite as much stuff on Sun/Mon. XD

~Lyn

Its taking me a while to call this con "Dragon Con" instead of "Dragon*Con" now that the name has changed. But a small price to pay for the con being able to finally disconnect itself with that controversy. And it didn't seem to affect attendance at all this year from what I could see.

This was my second time attending Dragon Con, the first time being in 2011. I was very excited to return and this time I made sure to have more actual non-anime costumes for this con. This time I also got to stay in one of the host hotels (Hyatt), instead of commuting from a friend's house every day. Which made a huge difference in the experience as I was able to enjoy a lot more of the con this time around.

This report is going to be huge and thus will be divided into at least two entries (maybe 3), like I did last time I went.

Dragon Con Part 1: Wed-Fri )

Annnd I think I'm going to stop there for now 'cause that took me forever to write up as is. XD And Sat was an even bigger day as far as events went so I think that will probably be its own entry. Then Sun-Tues as a 3rd entry. ...maybe. I'm being really slow and lazy with this report as I have so many things distracting me but so much I want to write about. ^^;;
