AnimeUSA '08 report
Well I'm still waiting on some photos but I'm going to go ahead and do my con report before I start to forget things.
Friday was full of fabulous-ness as Mikage and Fai, Saturday was full of angst and pain as Asch and Rai, and Sunday was full of lots and lots of Weiss lulz XP All in all, a good con.
Friday:
Woke up at the crack of dawn and headed out to the con so that Dad wouldn't be too late for work. He lives near the con so it works out rather nicely. Ren was also there super early so got into the room and woke up the other lazy room people (which about half were going to a different room anyways). Eventually went down to pre-reg which of course did not open on time and at first I was like "why are we bothering waiting here?" but then considering how long the line was once it opened, kinda glad we stayed there, lol. As it would've taken a lot longer otherwise. Ken, Ling, Mimi, Annie, and Magenta arrived right as we got our badges so hung with them for a bit before finally Ren and I dragged ourselves back up to the room to get into costume. So Ren got into Luke and I got into Mikage. I picked up my Versailles poster from Tainted Reality (I supposedly was the first person to buy anything too as I got there right as they were still setting up the table ^^;) We wanted to head into the Dealer's Room but it was delayed by another two hours so instead we spent the rest of the early afternoon sitting at the bar since it wasn't open. As a result pretty much every photo of me in Mikage is of me sitting a the bar. XP

I was really happy to finally get to cosplay Mikage and I really hope I can go to Nekocon and wear him again with Courtney as Mamiya. I loved people's reactions to the costume. Especially Ken's: "*does a double take* Wait...Lyn?" and Anita's: "Woah! ...wait, you aren't doing a girl are you?" XP No don't let the pink hair fool you, Mikage is definitely a guy. A very gay guy but still a guy nonetheless.
Ren's awesome friend Alex came around and took some pretty hilarious photos of Luke and Mikage at the bar which hopefully should be up sometime this weekend. But for right now...here's a dead Luke for you:
I think we went back up to the room for a moment because one of my side seams ripped open and Ren wanted to change into Lavi. Stitched myself back up while she changed (this is what I get for making a costume fitted for a change XP) and headed back down. Eventually the Dealer's Room was actually open so we wandered in there. Gotta say it was a pretty big disappointment this year but I seem to be saying that a lot of about Dealer Rooms lately. They really just didn't seem to have anything all that interesting though and my favorite dealers weren't even there. But Ren lead me to this "secret" dealer booth that had a lot of really rare stuff and I'm totally looking for them again the next few cons as I've never noticed them before. XP But they had Lamento manga so I totally grabbed the Rai book and I'm so happy I did as the book is awesome and totally worth the $20 I spent on it. They had 2 of the coin figures when we asked but I wasn't really interested in Verg and the girl said she had Firi but he wasn't in the box! ;_; I was so sad but she said she'd look for him for me. But yeah we left soon after that as we didn't really see anything interesting at any other booths.
After that we just hung out in the lobby with Magenta, looking over our Lamento goodies. Then I spotted Spike and his Weiss group and totally chased after them. XP Magenta and I started talking to them, making plans for mass Weiss fun on Sunday and then I realized we left poor Ren all alone with our stuff so convinced them all in coming back over to the sitting area where much lulz was had by everyone.
Yohji: My little boy, what do you want want for Christmas?
Then we gave Yohji porn. AKA the Lamento artbook and at first he was all grinning and Omi is all "wow he's really getting into this..." and then he hit the Bardo scene with the honey and just went "...O_O" Ren and I laughed 'cause we knew what scene he must've found. XP And everyone gathered around to look. I think we traumatized them pretty good with that book. Oh Lamento. XP I was going to change into Fai at that point initially but then found out Lionel's flight had been majorly delayed and by the time he got to the con he was really out of it and jetlagged so canceled all the shoots which was fine since I have plenty of photos of Fai anyways and Sarah wasn't going to be getting in time for the shoot at that point anyways. So I got into the costume a bit later and didn't wear it for very long considering how hot and heavy that thing is. But I love wearing it as I do feel pretty fabulous. Not sure if I'll wear it for Katsu or not as I don't want to overload myself already. Maybe for Neko though. As that costume is just too awesome not to wear. XP
We did run into Lionel and found Laura about the same time so we hung out with them for a while since our Weiss gang had gone off to do their Phantom of the Opera at that point I think. Talked about politics with Lionel and had a pretty insightful conversation on the topic, which is probably about as much as I'll ever go into politics at a con.
Got out of Fai soon after and into my get-up for the Versailles panel. Wore my dear old Ryouko/Seishiro coat that I literally took out from the depths of my closest. XP And managed to make it look decent with my floofy shirt and all. Went to the panel with Magenta. Saw Ginny, Monty, and Dani in their Gundam00 costumes while in line and did a total double take on Dani as I didn't realize it was her at first with the purple hair and pink sweater. Wow that costume was even more fabulous than my Mikage! XP So yeah went to the panel and then did the autograph session afterwards (if you want to read the details of the Versailles events, that's in a separate post here http://rose-of-pain.livejournal.com/434017.html ) and then managed to catch the tail end of Ling and Co's Cosplay panel. Someone was asking about the shoulder armor for Crisis Core trooper uniforms and I LOLed at that as I was like "beach ball!" them: "eh?" me: "no really, it works. well I mean you can do the more expensive methods too and look better but if you are low on funds, beach ball all the way!" XP (I still can't believe that actually came out as decent as it did to tell you the truth.)
I had to like lay down while at the panel though as I suddenly just didn't feel good at all but wanted to stay so I could at least say I went to one of their panels. And then afterwards I decided to just go back to the room as I was pretty exhausted. Changed into regular clothes and just chilled out for a bit. Ren was already trying to get to sleep so I tried to keep it quiet as I started my epic search for an eating utensil as I once again forgot one! x_x Doh. But I was really hungry and the ramen looked so good so I ended up taking the steam of a fake rose I had and lolipop I got from Dar and using those as makeshift chopsticks. ^^;; Hey it worked!
After eating and taking a shower, I decided to just pass out as well but sadly there was shit all over the bed. >>;; And I was not going to bother moving it (from our other roommates) so I settled for the floor instead. Sadly neither Ren nor I managed to get any sleep despite going to bed early as people kept coming to the door or the other roommates kept coming in and out or people in the hall would wake us up (damn for being close to the elevator >>;). So yeah, not fun. Bah.
Saturday:
I did not want to get up. Mostly just laid there on the floor being "..." for quite a while. -_- Very...very slowly got into Asch. Magenta, in Luke, came to the room with Onigiri made by Annie but she forgot to warn me that they might have Umeboshi in them so I got a bite of that and kinda just keeled over for a bit from the sour-ness. lol I was not prepared for that! XP My Luke was trying to kill me I swear it! Damn replica!
So anyways, finally went downstairs with Ren who was wearing Konoe at the time. Went back into the Dealer's Room in hopes that girl had found Firi but sadly she hadn't. *weep* So instead I decided to try my luck on one of the Code Geass zodiac figures...and totally got Suzaku on the first try. XP Wow my luck has been amazing on these lately! o_o This is the 4th figure in a row I've gotten the one I wanted on the first try with. So yes now I have crabby Suzaku on my camera strap. XP
Headed back to the lobby and found that one of the couches was empty, took it, and basically spent the rest of the day on that couch. lol Got some food from the awesome deli. Well Magenta and Ren got food and I just ate the fries as I wasn't hungry enough to eat anything. Courtney joined us at some point in Rosiel and got food from the Deli and hung out for a bit as well. Soon it was time for hall judging so I went upstairs to do that. Dani and Dar were up there with their massive amazing Persona 3 costumes so I hung out with them and helped keep Dar from killing anyone with her wings, lol. They signed up for the time right after me so that was rather convenient. Went in, got judged, which was awesome as the judges were really nice and like I'm always nervous doing that part as I always forget certain details and such but they were cool and I talked to them about the wonders of bias tape makers (even though I made sure to point out for once I didn't make the bias on this costume) and got some ideas on how to try to make Asch's boots stay up better. Though they did pretty good this time around. Only fell down like once or twice without having to be safety pinned down! Whoo!
After that headed back to the spot on the couch and found out several other Tales friends of Ren's had joined us and they were pretty cool. Then the ACP dude came by and asked us for photos and he started posing us and was all "these are for my friends who are just crazy for this pairing" XP so I was all "oh my!". lol It was fun and he posed us really well I think.

Dani and Dar finally made it down to the lobby level so I went over to say hi to them for a bit and take photos of their sexy sexy costumes.
Also ran into Jen (NekoCathy) around this time which was cool as we really don't see each other these days at cons it seems. And here's the photo you asked from me, Jen:

Eventually our group started to disappear and we decided to go chill in our room for a bit with Magenta. Which then led to a lot of silly Asch and Luke photos. XP As we had this really freaky shower in the bathroom (as I'm sure lots of folks did) where there was no sliding door, no curtain, just one panel of glass and like...nothing. So you had to watch yourself shower and it was freaky. XP But then we noticed if you closed the door of the bathroom, you could kinda close off the shower...which then proceeded to us trapping Luke in the shower. And since it was kinda like having an animal at the Zoo, I decided to make a label. XP

We actually had quite a number of people come up to us while wearing these costumes, being all "hey aren't you the two from that Lionel shoot? Omg I love those photos so much! I love you two!" o_o So that was quite the pleasant surprise. lol So anyways, finally got out of Asch and into Rai. And Magenta got into Bardo so finally we did Lamento. Though alas Ling and them had to go to Ken's for stuff so they were gone the whole time we were in the costumes. *tear* ;_;
And I actually have no photos of Rai right now as the only ones that got any are Al and Alex and neither have gotten that far in their photos so I'll do a big photo post when I do so I can show you guys the costume that nearly killed me (as if Asch wasn't bad enough, no, Rai was really hard because of the way I chose to make him >>;; Let's just say: lots and lots of hand stitching). Though I'm really excited for Alex's photos as he has a really good camera and some of the shots we were got were really awesome. We did a bunch on the skywalk and then some in this little garden area. We spent like over an hour doing photos so it was pretty awesome. XP But then it started to get dark and we went back in and ordered pizza as we were totally starving at this point. While walking back into the con, some smartass walked by and was all "yiff yiff" >> *twitch*. I hate people, I really do. And I think we only had about 2 people who actually knew who we were but they were pretty happy so that made us happy. Sat down at the bar area and Ren ordered a drink while we waited for pizza.
Sadly only managed to eat one piece of pizza before I had to go change. So took another piece up with me to the room and ate it there. I think the people in the elevator wanted to kill me for bringing in food with me. XP Haha. I wonder if I tortured their poor stomachs with that. Then I changed into regular clothes and went to the concert. Now I had planned to get back into Rai afterwards but that obviously didn't happen. *sigh* Oh well, there's always Katsu. 'Cause as I came down, of course Ling and Mimi were there in Razel and Asato. ;_; Man I still demand that we get a shot of all four cats at Katsu. *raises determined fist* Then on my way to the concert line, I get stopped by Jim who is all "Lyn! Come here...*drags to staff room*" Me: "O_o;??" Jim: *hands me trophy* Me: "....EEEEE!!!!" Yeah I wasn't expecting it at all. So yeah I'm very very very happy about that award as I was hoping for at most something small like a Judge's Award or Honorable Mention. I didn't think I was actually good enough for Best Journeyman. o_o *faints at the idea all over again* So yeah, wow, I almost started crying right there. lol But then went back upstairs to drop the award off in my hotel room before I started the long...long...loooong wait for the concert.
Not much happened after the concert as I was pretty dead and it was really late. So just went back to the room with Ren and we had been all determined to get the bed after the previous night...only to find out our roommates weren't feeling well and had already gotten the bed. *facepalm* Oh well. I think my spot on the floor turned out to be pretty comfortable anyways.
Sunday:
So after another night of very little sleep, woke up far earlier than I wanted to, but did so anyways so Ren and I could get our stuff down before the mad rush. And so glad we did. lol I didn't even get dressed. Just went down in my pajamas, gave my luggage to Soloman (our awesome hotel staff guy, seriously, he rocks, lol) and so managed to get the side room instead of the mass pile everyone else who came down later had to deal with. So after that went back to the room and just played dead for a while. Then got into Schuldig and Ren got into Konoe again. Sat around for a bit and drank some overpriced Vitamin Water to wake me up. Magenta showed up in Brad and I still find it funny that Schu had to give Brad his glasses. Hee. XP And it wasn't long before we managed to find the Weiss group though we were still waiting on Courtney to be Farf so every time Al came over we were like "ah nope, still got more people, we'll find you later" lol. The Weiss boys were hungry so we went over to the deli (also did Ken, Mimi, Ling, and Annie, yay~!) and so we took up the whole back little area and much lulz over food was had. Courtney joined us there in Farf and had a very manly muffin. XP

After everyone had eaten and we made the conclusion that Mountain Dew is Schwarz' drink of choice and Cherry Coke Zero is Weiss', we headed out, found Nagi, and went over to get photos in this dark little shady stairwell that went nowhere. XP
But first we ran into a shopping cart. Yes the same one Ginny and everyone was abusing the night before.
Oh Yohji XP And Schu got in too but of course I couldn't take a photo of that when I was in it. XP Courtney has that one though.

Man Sunday really was amazing and might have even been the best day of the con just because of the Weiss shoot. We got up on top of the stairwell thing afterwards, did some photos up there, which must've been really weird to oncoming traffic. XP Then we met up with Al and went across the street to take photos on top of this crazy vent thing (omg it was kinda scary as you look down and there's this huuuuge drop) and omg I love Al! He did so many awesome photos with the whole group! ^^ I can't wait to see them. We had epic battle poses.
And then a car that was driving by suddenly stops in front of us and the girls in the car scream out "We love you Weiss!" and took a photo of us. And Al was all "...did we just get a drive-by shooting?" XPXP It was pretty awesome.
There was a bright orange construction sign nearby so they got the great idea of this shot...

Then we wanted to get photos of the various fight scenes in the last episode and we wanted some good pillars for it and we look over and behold we find pillars on this street behind the hotel. XP So yet another series of photos were taken there. My favorite of being when we had Crawford sacrificing Aya but then Ken threw the soccer ball in and it hit and "killed" Aya and Crawford mourned over the fact the soccer ball beat him to it. So this also resulted in us trying to get action shots of the soccer ball so we kept having to do it over and poor Aya is being hit in the face each time. XP

And we tried to do CaramelDansen video but my camera ran out of memory. I think we got part of it on Ken's camera though even though I like failed at it. Like usual. ^^;; 'Cause like everyone was all "follow Ren's direction" and I honestly couldn't figure out what direction she was going in so I think I'm all going "huh?" during the video. Schu fails. XP
Sadly Yohji and Omi had to head out so they left and the rest of us went into the Dealer's Room one more time where Brad bought porn and drank Smirinoff. XP Man what next you going to start smoking? I guess Schu really got to Brad finally. XP We hung out in a corner on the floor for a bit, exchanged info, and then headed out and sat outside for a while.

Ren and I sat in the lobby for a bit but things were getting pretty slow so we got our stuff out of holding and I was picked up by the parents and Ren headed out after that. But Sunday was pretty epic and by far the most active Sunday I've ever had.

Then the ACP dude came by and asked us for photos and he started posing us and was all "these are for my friends who are just crazy for this pairing" XP so I was all "oh my!". lol It was fun and he posed us really well I think.

Dani and Dar finally made it down to the lobby level so I went over to say hi to them for a bit and take photos of their sexy sexy costumes.
Also ran into Jen (NekoCathy) around this time which was cool as we really don't see each other these days at cons it seems. And here's the photo you asked from me, Jen:

Eventually our group started to disappear and we decided to go chill in our room for a bit with Magenta. Which then led to a lot of silly Asch and Luke photos. XP As we had this really freaky shower in the bathroom (as I'm sure lots of folks did) where there was no sliding door, no curtain, just one panel of glass and like...nothing. So you had to watch yourself shower and it was freaky. XP But then we noticed if you closed the door of the bathroom, you could kinda close off the shower...which then proceeded to us trapping Luke in the shower. And since it was kinda like having an animal at the Zoo, I decided to make a label. XP

And this resulted. XP Granted it needs to be shopped and all since Magenta's binding is totally showing and my last minute cigarette looks retarded but you get the idea. XP And please, this photo does not go beyond this LJ, k? I don't want to see this up on 4chan or something. XPXP
We actually had quite a number of people come up to us while wearing these costumes, being all "hey aren't you the two from that Lionel shoot? Omg I love those photos so much! I love you two!" o_o So that was quite the pleasant surprise. lol So anyways, finally got out of Asch and into Rai. And Magenta got into Bardo so finally we did Lamento. Though alas Ling and them had to go to Ken's for stuff so they were gone the whole time we were in the costumes. *tear* ;_;
And I actually have no photos of Rai right now as the only ones that got any are Al and Alex and neither have gotten that far in their photos so I'll do a big photo post when I do so I can show you guys the costume that nearly killed me (as if Asch wasn't bad enough, no, Rai was really hard because of the way I chose to make him >>;; Let's just say: lots and lots of hand stitching). Though I'm really excited for Alex's photos as he has a really good camera and some of the shots we were got were really awesome. We did a bunch on the skywalk and then some in this little garden area. We spent like over an hour doing photos so it was pretty awesome. XP But then it started to get dark and we went back in and ordered pizza as we were totally starving at this point. While walking back into the con, some smartass walked by and was all "yiff yiff" >> *twitch*. I hate people, I really do. And I think we only had about 2 people who actually knew who we were but they were pretty happy so that made us happy. Sat down at the bar area and Ren ordered a drink while we waited for pizza.
Sadly only managed to eat one piece of pizza before I had to go change. So took another piece up with me to the room and ate it there. I think the people in the elevator wanted to kill me for bringing in food with me. XP Haha. I wonder if I tortured their poor stomachs with that. Then I changed into regular clothes and went to the concert. Now I had planned to get back into Rai afterwards but that obviously didn't happen. *sigh* Oh well, there's always Katsu. 'Cause as I came down, of course Ling and Mimi were there in Razel and Asato. ;_; Man I still demand that we get a shot of all four cats at Katsu. *raises determined fist* Then on my way to the concert line, I get stopped by Jim who is all "Lyn! Come here...*drags to staff room*" Me: "O_o;??" Jim: *hands me trophy* Me: "....EEEEE!!!!" Yeah I wasn't expecting it at all. So yeah I'm very very very happy about that award as I was hoping for at most something small like a Judge's Award or Honorable Mention. I didn't think I was actually good enough for Best Journeyman. o_o *faints at the idea all over again* So yeah, wow, I almost started crying right there. lol But then went back upstairs to drop the award off in my hotel room before I started the long...long...loooong wait for the concert.
Not much happened after the concert as I was pretty dead and it was really late. So just went back to the room with Ren and we had been all determined to get the bed after the previous night...only to find out our roommates weren't feeling well and had already gotten the bed. *facepalm* Oh well. I think my spot on the floor turned out to be pretty comfortable anyways.
Sunday:
So after another night of very little sleep, woke up far earlier than I wanted to, but did so anyways so Ren and I could get our stuff down before the mad rush. And so glad we did. lol I didn't even get dressed. Just went down in my pajamas, gave my luggage to Soloman (our awesome hotel staff guy, seriously, he rocks, lol) and so managed to get the side room instead of the mass pile everyone else who came down later had to deal with. So after that went back to the room and just played dead for a while. Then got into Schuldig and Ren got into Konoe again. Sat around for a bit and drank some overpriced Vitamin Water to wake me up. Magenta showed up in Brad and I still find it funny that Schu had to give Brad his glasses. Hee. XP And it wasn't long before we managed to find the Weiss group though we were still waiting on Courtney to be Farf so every time Al came over we were like "ah nope, still got more people, we'll find you later" lol. The Weiss boys were hungry so we went over to the deli (also did Ken, Mimi, Ling, and Annie, yay~!) and so we took up the whole back little area and much lulz over food was had. Courtney joined us there in Farf and had a very manly muffin. XP

After everyone had eaten and we made the conclusion that Mountain Dew is Schwarz' drink of choice and Cherry Coke Zero is Weiss', we headed out, found Nagi, and went over to get photos in this dark little shady stairwell that went nowhere. XP
But first we ran into a shopping cart. Yes the same one Ginny and everyone was abusing the night before.
Oh Yohji XP And Schu got in too but of course I couldn't take a photo of that when I was in it. XP Courtney has that one though.

Man Sunday really was amazing and might have even been the best day of the con just because of the Weiss shoot. We got up on top of the stairwell thing afterwards, did some photos up there, which must've been really weird to oncoming traffic. XP Then we met up with Al and went across the street to take photos on top of this crazy vent thing (omg it was kinda scary as you look down and there's this huuuuge drop) and omg I love Al! He did so many awesome photos with the whole group! ^^ I can't wait to see them. We had epic battle poses.
And then a car that was driving by suddenly stops in front of us and the girls in the car scream out "We love you Weiss!" and took a photo of us. And Al was all "...did we just get a drive-by shooting?" XPXP It was pretty awesome.
There was a bright orange construction sign nearby so they got the great idea of this shot...
Brad: Schu is that you? *squints*
Schu: Over here you ass!
Then we wanted to get photos of the various fight scenes in the last episode and we wanted some good pillars for it and we look over and behold we find pillars on this street behind the hotel. XP So yet another series of photos were taken there. My favorite of being when we had Crawford sacrificing Aya but then Ken threw the soccer ball in and it hit and "killed" Aya and Crawford mourned over the fact the soccer ball beat him to it. So this also resulted in us trying to get action shots of the soccer ball so we kept having to do it over and poor Aya is being hit in the face each time. XP

And we tried to do CaramelDansen video but my camera ran out of memory. I think we got part of it on Ken's camera though even though I like failed at it. Like usual. ^^;; 'Cause like everyone was all "follow Ren's direction" and I honestly couldn't figure out what direction she was going in so I think I'm all going "huh?" during the video. Schu fails. XP
Sadly Yohji and Omi had to head out so they left and the rest of us went into the Dealer's Room one more time where Brad bought porn and drank Smirinoff. XP Man what next you going to start smoking? I guess Schu really got to Brad finally. XP We hung out in a corner on the floor for a bit, exchanged info, and then headed out and sat outside for a while.

Then both of them left and soon after Magenta had to go as Ken and everyone wanted to head back, so said goodbye to all of them. Ren and I sat in the lobby for a bit but things were getting pretty slow so we got our stuff out of holding and I was picked up by the parents and Ren headed out after that. But Sunday was pretty epic and by far the most active Sunday I've ever had.
