There's a fair amount of crossover into the Manga, I think they're attempting to introduce the series in a way where if you've read the manga you won't completely know whats going to happen.

I mean they have #23 in the opening, and they show both Papa Hoho's in the opening/1st episode so its likely stuff is just being added. What has me concerned is the lack of Xing characters, as in mostly May and Ling. Well specifically Ling cause he's fuck win awesome. Hopefully they're not attempting to power through the series, there's so much goodness from the entire thing they could probably stretch it a bit.
