Con report. This one is going to be a bit smaller than my usual reports though 'cause I got stuff to do and Nekocon's report next week will probably be a lot longer anyways.
So the group that ended up going from our college ended up just being me, Gabi, Tom, Jeremy, and Andrew as everyone else dropped out. XP Including Fiore. >_>; We woke up rather early (or early for a Saturday anyways) but could not find Jeremy so the rest of us crammed into Tom's truck like Mexicans. I got to be nice and comfortable in the front while Gabi and Andrew crammed themselves into the back. We were a bit worried about Jeremy but he did eventually get to the con though he was having quite the bad day and I didn't even see him til later that night.
We ended up going the long way to the con as I didn't realize til we were halfway over the Solomon's bridge that we totally didn't need to go over the bridge. ^^; I'm such a bad navigator. But we still got there in good time so it worked out okay. So yeah, I got there and split from the group, got my badge, signed up for the Cosplay, and changed into Shaisuke. Soon after I found Psy and Meggen and Psy did my make-up and helped me spike the wig more. So now the wig is finally spiked correctly. lol It got a bit deflated during Otakon. I got quite a shock when I ran into a Yukari cosplayer because I definintly didn't expect any other Baiser cosplayers at this really tiny con so that was a rather pleasant surprise.
I really didn't do much at this con and though it wasn't a really bad con, it wasn't exactly a great con either. I guess its cause most of the people I met for the first time there last year weren't there this year so it wasn't quite as fun. Though I did get to hang with Alyce and Brittany at least for a litte bit even if it wasn't for very long. Also, the Cosplay took up my entire day pretty much. Judging took a really really long time and we weren't even done when we had to move to one of the events room for rehearsal. x_x; But I got to meet a lot of cool people during this time. Met an awesome Kami cosplayer named Lizzy who I spent most of the con hanging with. And my shirt I had in my bag got dedicated to the job of covering up a Kuja cosplayer's manly parts. lol 'Cause every time he sat down, he had a really hard time not flashing the world.
After finishing the judging and rehearsal, we made a break to get into the Camino concert line and luckily Meggen and her friend Rachel already had gotten in line pretty early so Lizzy and I got to join them and thus were able to get front row. lol This con actually let us take pictures of the band during the concert so I took quite a lot of pictures because usually we're told we aren't allowed to. I even got a short video clip of part of the concert on my camera's spiffy video ability. The concert was great! They actually only performed like one of the songs I know of theirs and now I can't even remember which one it was, lol. But all the songs were really good. It was worth going to the con just for them, I think. Though I couldn't get too much into the concert since I didn't want to mess up my costume since I still had a walk-on to do later. I kinda wish they had put the concert after the Cosplay, that would've worked better for me.
So yeah, I did just a quick walk-on and didn't win anything but had a lot of fun hanging with the other people in the Cosplay. Everyone was really friendly and we just fooled around a lot while waiting for the thing to start. Like some of them started playing volleyball with a Mokona plushie and a The Cheat plushie. XP Though it was a bit weird how many really young cosplayers there were this year. o_o I mean, really young. They were cute but still....it was weird and made me feel old. Plus, seeing so many of them cosplaying from Naruto was really weird. It was quite freaky seeing a 12/13 year-old hyperactive Itachi. o_o; And one of them attempted Kimimaro, which was also weird. And omg, the Haku was really annoying. ^^;; She kept running around and yelling all over the place. >_>; But the kids that did the Lupin group were ADORABLE! They sang this little song they created called "Otaku Blues" and it was great. The Cosplay was a lot better than last year in my opinion and I think people aren't giving the skits enough credit this time around. Its not exactly the easiest thing to come up with a good original skit and most of the groups were new and young cosplayers. But there was a really funny One Piece skit and a various skit that featured Iron Chef Rock Lee. "Orlando Bloom no Jutsu!"
Lizzy had promised me food in her room (Because all these events were back-to-back, I had no chance to eat. x_x) so I ended up taking half of my costume off and just sat waiting for her in front of the elevators but....she took a long time and I was really uncomfortable so I wasn't really in a good mood. I also lost my badge during this time somehwo. Didn't help when that there was some meeting going on (according to NekoCathy, it was a young lawyers meeting?) and also a wedding party there too. VERY bad idea to have that going on in the same hotel as a con. When the meeting let out, they were all walking through the area I was sitting in and I got the worst looks I've ever gotten from anyone just because I was wearing vinyl and make-up. >_> And I got the comment "fucking weirdos" which didnt' help my mood at all to say the least. And a guy even had the nerve to come up to me and start touching my boots, which I responded to by just glaring at him. I actually didn't meant to look that mad at him since he actually was saying that the boots were really cool but I didn't like being touched at the moment. ^^; Though in the other chairs there were 2 ANBU cosplayers that rather scared the living daylights out of some of these people, which was great. ^_^
So I gave up waiting and changed the rest out of the costume in the bathroom 'cause I really wasn't feeling good. Went to Psy's J-Rock Panel for like a second 'cause I didn't see Lizzy at it and I really wanted to find her and it was also getting closer to the time I had to leave the con. I finally found her and I was quite starving and yet I couldn't get myself to eat even after Lizzy offered me Chinese food in her room 'cause my stomach was bothering me too much to let me eat anything. So I just ended up lying on her bed for a while instead til Tom called me saying we were ready to leave and that was around midnight. I think the drive back was actually one of the best parts of the con. 'Cause we stopped at a McDonalds to eat but they were closed so we decided to do the drive-thru but because we were feeling lazy, Jeremy and Andrew just hoped into the cargo area of Tom's truck and we went in the drive-thru in true Mexican style. XP And it was really funny because the person at the window was Spanish. Then the rest of joined them in the cargo area and just sat parked in the parking lot and ate our food. My stomach had finally settled down so I finally managed to get myself to eat. Then Andrew went into Jeremy's car so that Gabi could have more room space and Tom, Gabi, and I sang along to Oldies and Classic Rock all the way back.
I only took like 20-something pictures and most of them are Camino pictures. lol I'm currently uploading them and should have the page for them up soon. Though I really DO need to get to doing some work soon and such. Blah, can't believe I've got another con next weekend. x_x;
