Eh, depends on what machine you use. The good old Singer (the one my Mom's giving me for college) hated it. ^^; But we took out the Husquana (I KNOW I had to have spelled that wrong but too lazy to look it up) and had no problems. Didn't even have to use a different needle.
But vinyl also varies. I've seen lots of different types around. The stuff I got was labeled as "faux leather" in the store. Which I found a bit odd, 'cause even though vinyl and leather are often put in the same category, I consider their textures to be way different. But anyways, the type you use might make a difference in that too.
I've been on threads on the cosplay.com boards where people gave lots of suggestions on how to work with it. I actually haven't had to use any of those methods yet. I'm just sewing slower and being more careful than usual and pinning it differently (so not as to put many holes in it). It slips around a lot though. ^^;
