Fai (doll costume) progress

This is mostly for Alyce to see but I've been working on a Fai costume for her doll and thought I'd share some progress now that the shirt is done. I did mock-ups for all 3 layers already so just gotta make the coats and stuff.

The front. Obviously minus the little clasps as I haven't made them yet nor put any snaps on the shirt so thus the pins where the snaps will be. XP

The back.
I decided to make it long sleeved because as revealed in chapter-whatever-it-is the shirt is in fact long sleeved and Fai just wears long black gloves over top of them. Sadly its kinda way beyond my skills to make gloves for dolls so I figured this was the best idea for it. Unless Alyce prefers short sleeves and I can cut them or try to make like a fake little black sleeve thingy that would just end before the wrist.
I freaking hate tiny bias tape for the record. The stupid stuff (which I made btw as the only shade of blue it comes in in that size is dark blue) like refused to cooperate at all and I might take it all off and resew it on because the stitching is kinda embarrassing on it, truth be told. T_T Despite pinning it down, it kept moving and being uneven and stuff and didn't really stay where I had it pinned anyways. Argh. x_x
Ended up lining the shirt though I didn't plan to originally 'cause I then realized the snaps wouldn't work the way I want them to without it. XP Though I'm annoyed that you can see the blue bias tape through the shirt on the other side even with the lining. So maybe I should just take that bias tape off of that part so its not showing through?

Date: 2009-08-31 11:59 pm (UTC)As for the visible bias tape under the front, I would just take it off. I did this for my own costume because of the same problem. :P Plus less to do. It won't ever be seen so it doesn't matter.
EDIT: Oh, and if you do remove the tape from that segment and get irked by the different shades of white that might become noticeable as a result (like it'll be lighter on the part where it's double layered and slightly darker where it's just the front and his chest), you could just like, but a white layer of something on him...like a tank or something. Just a suggestion before you even get there. >_>

Date: 2009-09-01 12:14 am (UTC)Yeah...lol. I've done mini bias tape before but I don't remember it being this difficult. x_x Then again that was store bought so that's probably why. XP I'm not so good at the getting it even when I fold it in half at the end and the tininess makes it harder as I kept like...burning my fingers when I tried to hold it in place. XPXP
Yeah, I should have thought of that before I sewed it on. XP Oops! I don't think there will be that much of a noticeable difference of the whites though 'cause of the way the fabric is. Its just that the blue is really bright and all. ^^;;
So we shall see what ends up being the hardest part in small size. The bias tape might be a winner but I still have to do the fur. ^^;;;

Date: 2009-09-01 12:21 am (UTC)I haven't worked with miniature stuff before, but I want to say the fur should be easier. At least, when I was working with it, it was only difficult because of the volume. The long fur would get caught and it was super thick (my layers are ridiculously thick). Being small I think it should make it easier. But you'll see when you get there huh lol.
I can't wait to see this completed!! It's be adorable. ♥

Date: 2009-09-01 05:29 am (UTC)Ehh, well, lol, its not the fur on like the big coat I'm worried about. More the "flatter" fur on the 2nd layer since I'll be making a collar out of it and stuff like that. Since it's just going to be a bit thick for something so small so we shall see how that goes...
Thank you for the encouragement though. ^_^
