FF30: Day 27

rose_of_painDay 27 – Best Final Fantasy storyline.
You know, I kinda hate this one. 'Cause its so hard to answer it without being biased. Lets face it, everyone wants to list their favorite FF game for this one. So I tried to be unbiased and thought about all the storylines of each FF game I've played and I really don't know which one I'd call the best in terms of story. None of them are perfect. Each one has something that bugs me or some type of plothole or issue.
FFIV - Well I must admit I can't find anything wrong with the story for IV. But at the same time its not really the most exciting story when you think about it. Its pretty basic with not that many plot twists other than Golbez and the Kain vs Cecil rivalry. But then again it is one of the older games and so a lot of that can be forgiven as a lot of games of that time period are like that. But I still enjoy it and its probably my 2nd fav FF game. So it comes close in this answer.
FFVI - My memory of VI is still a little murky and I wish I could remember stuff in it better but its just been so long. But I do remember it being pretty damn epic. And maybe it was just me but I feel like it was one of the longer games in the series. At least it felt like it went on forever when I played it but in a good way. So this is another one that could be a close answer to this. My only real issue is that it almost had too many playable characters. To the point where there was no way you could really do a lot of character development for each because there are just so many of them and you don't want the game REALLY going on forever. But as a result I felt like I didn't know much about some of the characters and it was easy to forget about some of them.
FFVII - Of course I'm really biased towards VII and want to say its the best but then again its just 'cause its the one I'm the most attached to and the one that got me into RPG games. So to me it was this AMAZING story but I look back at it from an older perspective and see it does have a lot of flaws. There are some plotholes and awkward moments but I'm not sure how much of that was just things lost in translation as it really is one of the more poorly translated games. I really wish that they would at least rewrite the script (or did they do that already? Since I haven't bothered with the PSN downloadable version of it. But don't think I heard of any improvements to it) if they're not going to do a remake. Because it needs to be retouched and fixed up some. And then maybe I'd say its the best. But only FFVII on its own. Not including the compilation games as they kinda mess things up, in my opinion.
FFVIII - ...well I've already stated in previous posts that this storyline has a lot of issues. lol So it doesn't even get considered for this. Sorry VIII fans. ^^;;
FFIX - Another one of my favorites and the game that surprised a lot of us with how good its story actually was despite how silly it looked at first. And its very unique mostly because it does go in such a different direction than other FF games. I mean it still has some of the FF cliches (like the "lead heroine getting kidnapped" bit) but the species and style is really different. Though as much as I do love the story, I'm not sure I'd say its "the best".
FFX - A lot of people I know groan whenever you mention this game. lol But I've always liked it and I actually think the plot is really good. Yes I suppose if you don't like the romance aspect of it, it can get annoying but unlike VIII, the other romance focused game, I actually like the couple here. And the story made me tear up...a lot. So I guess I have to admit that I'm a hopeless romantic at heart and that stories like this get to me. >>; Because I seriously do think this is one is pretty high up there in terms of storyline.
FFXII - Pffft. Also have already mentioned my issues with this one. Could have had a great storyline but there's just something...off with it. And like I've said before, I'm still not sure what the plot even was. x_x
FFXIII - Ok this time at least I was able to remember the plot. But I didn't really get it and once again something seemed off with it, similar to my feeling of XII. Except I was able to like it more than XII because Lightning is amazing, I like Fang a lot, Sazh was a pretty awesome character in general, and I really liked Pulse. However the story itself, despite how many people I've heard defending it, really confused me and was just too...weird for me. Especially the ending. And I don't know if it was just 'cause I'm too dumb to really get the whole philosophical aspect of it or what but yeah...it just went a little over my head.
