Sooooo I'm still trying to figure out if I'm going to Dragon*Con this year or not and I do need to make a decision pretty soon.

But does anyone who has attended before know if they have daily/multi-day passes that aren't for the whole con? I've been told there are but I can't find ANY information on this on the site. Only about the full memberships. But I'd really like to know if they have them and what price they tend to be. I've asked 2 friends who've gone and either didn't know and one suggested I contact D*C's staff and ask but I hate being a bother to con staff especially over a question that seems like it shouldn't need to be asked. I'm just really bawfled by the fact that a con this size doesn't have any info on this. Unless they just don't do smaller badges anymore?

It does make a difference in my likeliness to attend because at this point I'm probably only going to attend for a few days. Most likely just two or maybe even one. Since the only way I'd be going to it now is 'cause my parents were thinking of making a family trip out of it. 'Cause Mom's always wanted to go to Atlanta and we could then go further down to Florida to visit my brother as we have yet to actually do so and he moved there several years ago now. And I agree that would be a great idea as I want to visit him too and haven't been down that way in a long time. Though of course my parents never fly anywhere. They drive everywhere so this would be a driving trip with them and as my parents never really stay at any place for very long in their trips (their idea of a trip is usually 2-3 days. The longest one we've ever done was our week-long trip down the south coast with like 4 days in Florida). So obviously they wouldn't want to spend too much time in Atlanta while I'm at the con. Though there's also a chance Dad might want to attend for a day too as he's actually a bigger sci-fi geek than I am and did kinda get excited when I told him what this con is like. But not sure if he would 'cause Mom wouldn't really enjoy it and he wouldn't want to leave her behind.

But anywho, point is, I need to know at least an idea of how much the tickets would be for less than the full membership. And this still doesn't mean I'm going for sure as I'd still have to check with work first and I'm a bit nervous there as someone else already requested a week off around the same time frame so not sure if my manager would be willing to give two employees a week off during a holiday time. (Oddly enough I did ask the other girl if she was going to D*C by any chance since the time corresponds with the con and she is a geek too. lol She was quite amused as she actually would LOVE to go to it and knows about it but that's not where she's going. XD She didn't even realize that was the same week.)

But yeah I don't think I really want to attend for the full con anyways quite yet. 'Cause I feel like it might overwhelm me a little since I've never been to a non-anime con. And I don't think I'm going to really have any appropriate costumes in time for it. I kinda wish I could do something Doctor Who related but I seriously can't think of a single character from it that I could pull off. :/ As much as I love it and love so many of the characters, I don't think I'm suited for any of them. x_x; So I dunno, I'd just feel a little sad that I wouldn't have any Sci-Fi or Fantasy costumes really. I know plenty of people wear Anime costumes to it but I'd prefer to use the opportunity to do something different. Was going to do Avatar: The Last Airbender for it but now I'd probably be doing it alone and I dunno if I'd have the time. Bleeeeh. And everything else I've wanted to do really needs at least a 2nd person to do it with or else it's not recognizable and not really as much fun. Guuuh, I need to find more solo costumes that work fine on their own. XD;

IMO you're better off getting a weekend pass. Daily passes are hella expensive and you aren't guaranteed to get one because there is a cap on attendance. Saturday is the busiest day and one of the best to go... Thursday is just badge pick up.. Friday and Monday are the slowest. Although tbh there are no "slow" days lol. Info about single day passes usually isn't released until like the month before con

Well I would get the full membership if I actually go enough days worth it. I may just do one day in which case I really think I should do just a day pass 'cause its a lot of money otherwise. But I dunno, I do have some time to decide before the membership rate goes up to $120.

But thanks for the info! So at least I do know now that they do have the day passes and will eventually have that info up.

I looked up some info and bugged a bunch of people and the Monday passes would be around $50ish with Saturday and Sunday being significantly more.... dunno about Fri though

Yeah, I'm thinking a single day might be like $40-50? Because more happens on a single day at D*C than in an entire weekend at any other con (except for SDCC lol). And yeah, like the person above me said, there are no slow days. Even Monday is like a Friday at a normal con. All the other days are like normal-con Saturdays, and even Thursday night is worth checking out because its insanely lively (I always lose track of days while I'm there, because Thursday feels like a main day at any other con...).

But anyway, it might work alright if you did just attend a single day, but if you did 2-3 days, get a whole-weekend pass.

And as for your mom, there are a million and one things going on that non-fandomy people would be interested in :) Does she like science, astronomy, nature, history, linguistics, movies (film screenings go on 24 hours, and they are mainstream blockbuster flicks), music (every type of music is represented), art, exercise/meditation/yoga, dance...? Anyone from any walk of life can find something fun to do, and people watching is pretty much off the charts at D*C. Lots of Atlanta locals and sports fans who are there for the weekend for games and what-not hang out all day just to watch the going-ons. There are a lot of great places to chill out, great food, great bars. The Saturday morning parade attracts the entire city, it's like a holiday.

Also, ALL of the tourist stuff is right down the block from the con. The Aquarium, which is the best in the country and one of the top in the world (its incredible, seriously), is a 5 minute walk, the CNN HQ is interesting, the World of Coke is super fun, and the zoo and art museum are like a 5 minute train ride (and the train is SUPER easy and convenient to use).
I am rambling about this all, I know, but half the reason I love D*C is because the location and environment is incredible, I've never been to a con in such a perfect place.

...so just saying that I think there would actually be way too much for your parents to do while you're at the con :)

I want you to goooooooooooo D:

Ehhh, my Mom can be kinda hard to please. lol Like I know what my parents tend to like to do/see on trips and its not what most people are interested in. And they just don't really like to stay around a place for too long unless they're visiting family. But like I said, they do want to go to Atlanta so I assume that means there's something there they want to see.

But yeah, we shall see. I need to sit down and talk to them about it to see if this is really going to happen or not and soon so I can talk to about the days at work (just nervous since I just recently got approved days off for Otakon and not sure if asking for another time off this early on would look good or not since I've only been here about a month ^^;;).

Its from the Nightrunner series by Lynn Flewelling. Its a fantasy novel series. The image in the icon is from one of the Japanese covers as the series is popular enough in Japan that it has its own set of REALLY pretty covers that are all manga style. And soooo much better than the original American covers. x_x lol

They have had multi day passes in the past, don't know if they are doing it this year though. I know the price went up $20 on full admissions so they might have chosen to just get rid of the lesser day passes. I'll look around and see if I can find anything out for you.

And I am SURE I could think up some Doctor Who for you to do. I am going to be doing 2 River Songs and 1 Rory Pond so I will definitely think of something for you if you want!

Hmmm, yeah. It'd be helpful to know. Though after talking to my parents about it, its unlikely we'll do the family trip though. But still a chance we might go just to Atlanta, in which case I'd be attending the whole con. Dunno though.

But anyways! Feel free to suggest characters as I have no idea who I could pull off. lol

I would assume you'd rather do a boy.... hmmm Rory is lovely but that's easy.... let me think more

lol Everyone keeps suggesting Rory but I dunno. I'm actually not against cosplaying girls. I just don't do dresses or skirts or revealing outfits and...that tends to limit things. XD
